DOG, CAT

The groomer's advice for the proper hygiene of our 4-legged friends!

It is nice to come home and cuddle our 4-legged friends but it is even more pleasant if their coat is clean and soft. It is very important to take care of the cleanliness of our dogs or cats to best preserve their health.

A few operations and a little consistency are enough. Let's start with bath both for the dog and the cat it is recommended to start washing them as a puppy, to get them used to it, so that this operation is not perceived as traumatic by adults. Go to an organized grooming facility and rely on a professional in the sector who will be able to give you excellent advice. Thoroughly wet the coat with hot water starting from the back of the animal to let our friend become familiar and then proceed calmly on the rest of the body. When you get to the head, be careful not to wet the inside of the ears, hold the muzzle of the dog or cat down and proceed carefully.

Which shampoo? Once the hair is wet, it is time to shampoo. There are many products on the market: long hair, medium hair, short hair, medicated etc. The choice is so vast because each type of hair corresponds to different skin characteristics and it is important to choose the most appropriate shampoo in order not to alter the characteristics of the skin of the dog and cat. Personally, as a groomer, I prefer natural products that, in addition to respecting the skin and the pH of our animal, also respect the environment in which we live. Dilute the shampoo with water in a bowl, in a ratio of about 1: 5. Thoroughly soap the whole body of the dog and cat and, why not, since they do not disdain, take the opportunity to give them a nice massage and lots of pampering. Rinse well, always with hot water, and proceed with the conditioner. The latter is very important because in addition to nourishing the hair, it closes the pores of the skin and prevents the formation of skin irritations. The conditioner should be left to act for 5 to 10 minutes and then rinse it thoroughly.

And finally: adrying, ear cleaning and .. manicure. Drying must be done carefully to prevent the dog from taking on that unpleasant wet smell. You will immediately notice the sheen and softness of the coat. Then proceed with cleaning the ears using a specific lotion and a cotton swab; for cats it is better to use a cotton swab, but use very delicacy. Always with cotton soaked with a specific lotion, clean your eyes and check that there are no excessive tear secretions. Finally, shorten the nails, where necessary (in cats, the nails must be cut before the bath) and only if you are practical with this operation. Nail care is very important because it protects against the onset of inflammation and helps keep the joints of the paws healthy.

Between one bath and another the owner must still take care of the daily cleaning of his four-legged friend. It seems a demanding operation but it is enough to brush both the dog and the cat every day to always have a shiny coat and remove any dirt.

The work of the groomerand it is one of the most rewarding, albeit so challenging. There is no better satisfaction than gaining the trust of customers so different from us who thank you by wagging their tails, licking, jumping and in the case of cats, rubbing their noses against your hand making a lot of purring.

I love my job!
