Cooling down your horse: a key moment for its well-being

In horse riding, both competitive and amateur, great attention is often paid to the horse's athletic preparation: training, nutrition, management of the stable and outdoor spaces.

However, there is a fundamental phase that is often underestimated or treated superficially: the cool-down.

Tiring out the horse is not just a good practice, it is an act of respect towards his body, a concrete tool for prevent injuries, optimize recovery and support his performance in the long run.

What is a cool-down and why is it essential?

Cooling down is the time when the horse transitions from work to rest, promoting physiological and muscular recovery after exertion. It can occur after a training session, a walk, a race, or more intense work.

During physical activity, the animal's musculoskeletal system is put under stress: heart rate, body temperature, and lactic acid production increase, and physiological muscle and tendon microtraumas occur.

Un correct cool down helps to:

  • Gradually restore heart rate and body temperature
  • Improve lymphatic and blood circulation
  • Reduce the risk of inflammation or edema
  • Prevent muscle stiffness and post-activity pain
  • Maintain flexibility and elasticity of muscles and tendons

This phase therefore goes supported not only with movement (walking by hand or with a rope), but also with products, possibly natural, designed to promote deep recovery, respecting the horse's physiology.

Kaolin: a natural ally for muscle and tendon recovery

Among the most effective solutions to support the horse in post-activity we find the kaolin, a clay very rich in minerals, with properties absorbent and soothing.

Traditionally used for poultices, kaolin is known for its action:

  • Refreshing, capable of locally lowering post-exertion temperature
  • Absorbent and Detoxifying, useful for "capturing" toxins and then releasing nutrients and minerals for the animal's well-being
  • Anti-inflammatory, for its soothing action on tired tissues and reduction of swelling

Applying a kaolin-based product to a horse's stressed limbs or muscles is a simple but powerful gesture that can make a difference in recovery.

BIOTITE: the strength of kaolin combined with plant extracts

To offer effective and natural support to the horse during recovery, Union BIO offers BIOTITE, a formulation based on kaolin and plant extracts.

BIOTITE is designed for:

  • To tire out deep muscles and tendons
  • Freshen up the areas subjected to stress
  • Relieve tension post-work

Thanks to the synergy between kaolin ed plant extracts, acts delicately yet intensely. Its consistency is easily spreadable and adheres, but it is easily removed without the need for immediate rinsing. It can be applied with or without a bandage, after work, in the box, or upon returning from competitions.

Before applying BIOTITE it is recommended to do a light massage with EQUITRAUMA, immediate relief gel with Arnica, for:

  • Relax stressed muscle areas
  • Support the reabsorption of edema or swelling
  • Provide rapid action in case of minor work-related injuries
  • Enhance the soothing effect of the anti-fatigue product

Conclusion: a daily wellness ritual

Taking care of the horse also means taking the time to accompany him in the recovery phase, listening to your body and responding naturally to its needs. Include the use of products such as BIOTITE e EQUITRAUMA means prevent problems instead of having to cure them.

It is a gesture of attention that improves the horse's quality of life and strengthens the bond of trust between rider and animal.
