Turmeric, a long-lasting spice for animal welfare

La Curcuma longa is a herbaceous plant tropical perennial widespread in many Asian countries including India and China, but also cultivated in Africa.

It is characterized by a underground rhizome very fleshy and intense orange color inside. The leaves they are lanceolate and pointed at the end, while his fiori they are opaque yellow in color and very beautiful.

Curcuma longa, from which the yellow spice that we all know by grating the dried root, it is also called Turmeric by the English and Indians. It belongs to the family of Zingiberaceace and has always been used in Ayurvedic medicine and Chinese medicine for its numerous beneficial properties, first of all those inflammatory ed antioxidant in joint pathologies.

Composition: It is established for the 6% from essential oil composed of monoterpenes and sesquiterpenes (including zingiberina and B-tumerone), starches, which represent 45-55% of its weight, and curcuminoids, the main of which is curcumin, very important for its therapeutic action, Vit C, minerals, proteins ...

Property: It has been known since ancient times for its anti-inflammatory action, antioxidant, painkilling, antitumor, antibacterial, also active against cholesterol and hepatoprotective. Curcumin acts by inhibiting COX-2 and LOX, responsible for the production of pro inflammatory molecules and common targets of some anti-inflammatory drugs, which are also widely used in veterinary medicine.

How is it used and for what purpose?

La turmeric has always been used for treat peptic ulcer, pain caused by rheumatoid arthritis, amenorrhea, diarrhea, epilepsy and skin problems, but also as tonic, blood purifier and systemic anti-inflammatory.

Chronic inflammation is in fact the basis of the development of serious pathologies, including arthritis, lung disorders, but also autoimmune pathologies and cancer!

A healthy and long life!

In veterinary medicine the turmeric it is used for external use on wounds, abscesses, bleeding ulcers and mycoses; for internal use during colic, verminosis, constipation, respiratory ailments, weight loss, inflammation, liver disease and much more.

The administration of turmeric has been very successful in patients with joint problems, also in the case of osteoarthritis in dogs, as well as in uveitis and in the reduction of "bad" cholesterol in human individuals with principles of atherosclerosis.

Curiosity: turmeric, also known as Indian saffron, applied topically is very useful in case of viper bite (jacome, 2002)!
