Cleaning our animals during the coronavirus emergency: useful tips

The skin of our four-legged friends is covered with a hydro-lipid film rich in sebum and epidermal lipids, capable of keeping the skin elastic and defending it from the aggression of external pathogens. We can therefore say that the first defense of our animal from the outside world is healthy skin. Too frequent baths and aggressive products used too often, could contribute to the removal of this protective layer, causing excessive skin dryness and making the skin more easily attacked by pathogens and other external factors.

How should I behave with the dog in this period?

Dogs definitely need to go out, to Going out for a walk and to be calm even in this difficult situation that we are experiencing. For these reasons it is recommended to manage the animal in a similar way to how it has always been managed, even if the walks will be shorter and near the house, avoiding to transmit also to our pets anxiety and fear.

How can I clean the dog?

Surely, in this period, we want pay more attention to the hygiene of our animal, but it's important avoid exaggerating in cleaning and, above all, it is essential to differentiate hygiene based on the risk factors to which the animal may be exposed.

If in fact it is true that the virus can survive a few hours in the environment around us, it is also highly unlikely that animals will meet him during a simple walk around the house, that it can stay on them, and that by touching them or bringing them back into the house, we can contract the virus from them. So, if our animal is taken to walk in the park or under the house, the risk factors are practically zero, and it is advisable to carry out proper hygiene through the use of non-aggressive products, such as specific dry lotions, or other delicate products.

If, on the other hand, the animal is exposed to risky situations, as can happen for example for animals animating that five therapy who enter the hospital and are in close contact with medical staff or patients, then it can be applied more accurate hygiene which may include the use of delicate shampoos, or specific sanitizing products for our pets, preferably natural based. Among the natural-based sanitizing products, we can find on the market colloidal silver-based sprays or lotions based on active plant ingredients. We do not recommend the use of environmental chemicals on the skin of our pets, even if diluted, because they can irritate the skin and cause other serious problems such as dermatitis and real infections.

And what can I do at home?

The house, living it today more than ever before, it must be ours and their temple, and for this reason we should certainly keep it clean, but make it even more comfortable that never. It is therefore very important to dust often and clean even in those corners that we forget and to which we turn every day saying "away, I'll think about it tomorrow". We can thus remove the superfluous by letting it go if we no longer need it, gaining vital space for us and our four-legged animals. We can then use it for daily house cleaning, natural products that do not irritate our respiratory system, already severely tested by a daily situation of environmental pollution and various risk factors. If we want to add a touch of panache, we can eventually use some caution diffusers of relaxing natural essences like mandarin and lavender, or use natural resins like Boswellia's for example, incense mentioned in the sacred texts of the Bible and the Koran to perform sacred rites and fumigation, precisely for its purifying and antibacterial properties, as well as anti-inflammatory and relaxing of mind and body according to the aromatherapy philosophy.
