INFORMATION
Cough, pharyngitis, laryngitis and tracheitis
The disorders of the upper respiratory tract are very frequent in dogs, both adults and puppies. The causes are various and include bacterial, viral infectious agents, inflammation due to trauma, even trivially from a collar, reduction of the immune system, irritants, allergens, stress, temperature changes or bad hygiene conditions. Cough is a natural phenomenon, but if intense and protracted over time it can be very annoying and can also cause very serious problems therefore, in case of persistent cough, a veterinary check-up is necessary. Cough can be accompanied by irritation of the upper respiratory tract and laryngitis, pharyngitis or tracheitis.
Kennel cough or infectious tracheobronchitis
It is a very frequent and highly contagious respiratory syndrome for dogs, multifactorial, which can be caused by numerous infectious agents both viral (adenovirus, reovirus, herpes virus, etc.) and bacterial (Bordetella spp., But also Klebsiella spp., Mycoplasmas , etc.), as well as by external predisposing agents (stress, overcrowding, temperature changes, dust, etc.). These infectious agents are transmitted from one animal to another through the air, therefore transmission is more frequent in crowded places such as kennels, dog shows and shows, parks used for dogs.
Usually it is not a serious pathology but causes strong stress to the dog and irritation of the upper respiratory tract with a deep and strong cough, gagging, sometimes sneezing, puffs and breathing difficulties.
