Even in summer, our four-legged friends give us moments of joy and love... Don't abandon them!
The abandonment of animals during the holiday period is a repugnant, barbaric and uncivilized gesture and we must all do something to ensure that it is eradicated.
Animal abandonment: what the law says
Fortunately, to protect our animals we are also helped by the law, in particular with article 727 of the Penal Code which provides that anyone who abandons a pet is punished with imprisonment for up to 1 year or with a fine of 1.000 to 10.000 Euros.
If you happen to witness an abandonment or if you find an abandoned animal, we invite you to immediately report it to the police, who are required to intervene promptly.
Also the media disclosure made on this topic aims to promote civil education with the aim of reducing and, we hope, completely eradicating this brutal practice that recurs every year in the summer.
Data
According to data, 80% of abandoned animals do not survive.
In the summer of 2023, more than 127 animals were surrendered or abandoned every 24 hours, a 20% increase compared to the previous two summers. In the month of July alone, ENPA (National Animal Protection Agency) volunteers recovered 2.354 dogs.
